Meaning of Orient

Let's look at the translation of each word and explanation of the anime's name:

オリエント
  • オリエント - East
The anime's name "オリエント" (Orient) can be interpreted as a reference to the oriental world or a distant, mystical land that surrounds the characters' experiences. In the context of the synopsis, the use of the word "Orient" suggests an exploration of the traditions, struggles and liberations that take place in a setting influenced by Japanese culture, such as the struggle of humans against demonic forces after the fall of samurai rule. This duality between revering the liberators and, at the same time, realizing their control over humanity enriches the narrative and highlights the story's central conflict.
