Synopsis: In an Edo period Japan, marked by a demographic crisis that results in a shortage of men, the new shogun, Yoshimune "Nobu" Tokugawa, confronts deeply rooted traditions in a society shaped by a rare and devastating epidemic. With only one fifth of the population composed of men, the Oooku, the inner chambers of the shogunate, become a space where male beauty and youth are cultivated and valued like never before. In investigating the origins of this new social order, Nobu encounters the chronicles of the first female shogun, Iemitsu Tokugawa, and discovers how the survival of its rulers is not only a matter of power, but a struggle against the shadows of the past, where a young monk, Arikoto Madenokoji, is forced to leave his former life to become part of this new world.
