Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Main OVA – 110 episodes)

Focus on Yang Wen-li's military campaigns against the empire in battles that occur before the events of the main series. Show the consolidation of his reputation as the "Hero of El Facil."
At the same time, it also reveals the beginning of Reinhard's career and his rise among the imperial officers. These are smaller stories that delve into the protagonists' pasts and their early victories.
Galaxy Hero Legend: Side Story – Spiral Labyrinth
Following Yang Wen-li as he investigates the mysterious death of an admiral of the Alliance, while facing internal conspiracies and external battles. The plot showcases his struggle against corruption and the failing political system.
It also reveals their first missions and the origin of their skeptical stance towards the government. It's a more investigative and political arc than a military one.
Movie: My Conquest is the Sea of Stars (1988)
Shows the first meeting between Reinhard and Yang during a battle around a strategic fortress. Neither of them is famous yet, but they already demonstrate genius.
This confrontation sets the tone for the rivalry and mutual respect that will define the entire series. The movie is a direct prelude to the main series.
Movie: Overture to a New War (1993)
Recount the first two episodes of the main OVA with refined animation and additional scenes. It shows Reinhard rising in the imperial hierarchy and Yang standing out in the Battle of Astarte.

Movie: Golden Wings (1992)
Alternative adaptation of the youth of Reinhard and Siegfried Kircheis, featuring visuals and narrative style different from the rest of the franchise. It depicts Reinhard's initial rise and his hatred for the corrupt nobility.
It is considered non-canonical by many fans for presenting inconsistencies with the original material. Still, it offers a unique version of known events.

New adaptation in modern animation. Retells the story of the original series with an updated focus on pacing, design, and narrative. The first season covers up to the Battle of Astarte.
As the following seasons progress, the conflict remains true to the original work, but in a format divided into movies and episodes. It brings new life to the franchise for the current generation.
